Kristine Kathryn Rusch: The Fey Saga

The Fey-Saga is a well-known and loved by many readers (sold to half a dozen countries) epic fantasy by multiple award winning author Kristine Kathryn Rusch. The story tells the dramatic fight of rather peace-loving Blue islanders against the superior warriors Fey. It is a wonderful story with many unexpected twists and wonderful plots.

First published in the middle of the ninetees WMG Publishing now brings them out in uniform design and completed by missing pieces in eBook and paperback (forthcoming).

You can find more about the author at her website, informations about the series from the publisher.

The Fey - Destiny

Destiny is a kind of prequel to the Fey-novels, telling what happens short before the invasion of Blue Isle. There is a wonderful event when shapeshifter Solanda - hiding longer time as pet - reveals her true form to a little girl. I think moments like these are made to be shown in images...

The First Book of the Fey - Sacrifice

THEIR ARMIES HAVE CONQUERED HALF OF THE WORLD. NOW THEY WANT THE REST.

The setting for many of the events on Blue Island are well described in the books - the capital with the palace and the Tabernacle - seat of the religious leader, both connected by a large bridge and protected by massive cliffs and rocks around the isle.

The Second Book of the Fey - Changeling

BETRAYAL. ASSASSINATION. A STOLEN BABY. AND THAT’S JUST THE BEGINNING…

An assassination changes everything and throws the actors into a maelstrom.

What can I say, I like swamps, too!

The Third Book of the Fey - The Rival

A LAND SCARRED BY WAR FACES A CONQUEROR WITHOUT MERCY.

The events are mainly placed around the Tabernacle again, so I returned to it and the bridge. Flying shapeshifters offered the chance to change the angle of view.

The Fourth Book of the Fey - The Resistance

A RUTHLESS WARRIOR. A BRILLIANT TACTICIAN. ONE FAMILY. OPPOSITE SIDES.

The cave that may contain the salvation for the islanders is found in extreme high altitude, so the interesting question was: how would light and colour change there?

The Fey - Fleet Coming

When being through with the cover paintings for the novels I was asked to do some further images for later use in some Fey-related projects, so the following are the result of this.

The Fey fleet finds the way to the island guided by sea creatures they use as pilot. I have been impressed by photographs showing ship convoys in World War Two, protected by destroyers and sometimes even escort carriers.

The Fey - Holy Water

The Fey - Road Fight

The Fey - Shelter of Wisdom

I have always admired Piranesi and his Carceri. Years ago I had the chance to see some of the prints in original and all the web reproductions do them no justice. Like in Rat's Castle I tried to get a bit of this ambience into the Tabernacle library.
